One thing you can say about “Terminator Salvation” director McG is that he knows how to put on a good show.

Today at Wondercon, the boisterous director pumped up a jam-packed Esplanade Hall with everything Terminator. There were crowd chants, a call to Christian Bale’s voicemail and, of course, the world debut of the Salvation trailer, which will run in front of Watchmen (which releases this Friday).

The trailer itself was seriously bad-ass. I’ve reserved my share of skepticism over a 4th Terminator movie ever since I heard it was coming. McG himself admitted to his own attempt to get James Cameron’s blessing. Cameron, having directed the first two (awesome) films, only agreed it was a good idea once he heard McG’s claim that there was a viable story to tell story after Judgment Day, one that including John Connor’s coming of age.

Back to the trailer, we saw a chase sequence with robo-motorcycle terminators, a bridge being blown up and an awesomely huge robot that gathered humans. In general, the movie appears to be heavy on the action and the overall tone is as dark as a post-apocalyptic movie should be.

There were also several members of the cast there including Anton Yelchin (Kyle Reese), Bryce Dallas Howard (Kate Connor), Common (Barnes) and Moon Bloodgood (Blair Williams). None of the cast had seen the trailer before and they all seemed as psyched as the fans were. As Common put it, “That **** was incredible. And it really was. I’m officially looking forward to the film.
