Lost Season 5 episode 7, “The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham,” was one of the top episodes of all time. Several strings were finally tied up.
The mystery behind Matthew Abaddon finally came to light. He was in Hurley’s psychiatric ward, which made us think he was just a figment of Hurley’s supposed lunacy. Then, he helped John Locke when he was paralyzed, so he realized he wasn’t just an apparition.
Now we know once and for all that Matthew Abaddon works for Charles Widmore. The question still remains however, who is the real villain: Charles or Ben? We can only suppose that Ben is the real villain of this tale since, at a minimum Charles was a native to the island. Also, in the end, when Ben returns to the island he is seriously injured. The Oceanic 6 however appeared on the island without being hurt. And, as one of the newest castaways to the island said, they vanished off the plane before it crashed. What does that mean? Ben wasn’t supposed to come back to the island.
Widmore says there’s a war coming and John needs to be back on the Island to make sure that the right side wins. Who is the right side and who is going to be caught in the middle? Most likely since the “Others” are so close, Ben will try to lead the castaways in a war to reclaim leadership over the island. That was his real reason for killing John. Ben wants the crown back.
Where will this newest set of survivors fit in relation to our original castaways? Only time will tell.
Next on Lost, episode 8 ‘LaFleur’ :
