It may have been largely dissed by the Academy for Oscar nominations, but The Dark Knight has just become the fourth film to cross the $1 Billion mark in global box office sales.
According to BoxOfficeMojo, the film has taken in $533 Million in the US and $467 in international markets. The US tally represents second place of all time, with first still being held by 1997’s Titanic.
It took a re-release for the movie to get to the mark, but it’s still impressive nonetheless. TDK is the fourth film to reach 1 Billion, with the other three being “Titanic,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”
With this type of success, you’d expect Warner Bros to be ready to crank out another sequel. But it seems TDK Director and co-writer Christopher Nolan is taking his time to work on the film (which still has yet to be confirmed), instead directing Inception, set for a 2010 release. But don’t fret bat-fans, Nolan took a break after Batman Begins to direct another great movie, The Prestige.
