Raise your hand if you’ve been watching this season and now, pun intended, you’re Lost.
After six episodes, we’re back to the familiar surroundings of the island. For some reason, our favorite survivors just had to find their way back to the island and for no explainable reason. Sure, it’s sad to hear that Sawyer and Jin are still stuck traveling through time with brain hemorrhages only seconds away. But, all in all, the return to the island seems forced.
On a side note, I’ve about had it with Jack. He’s become Ben’s lap dog and just seems like a shadow of his former self. I’d be much happier if we stopped following his melodramatic story arc and .
Outside of Hurley, who needs to return to the island to not go crazy, the only two characters who remained true to themselves since returning to civilization are Kate and Sayeed. Kate is still the woman who loves to jump in the sack with a guy, then look at him like he did something wrong in the morning. But really, after learning that Ben was behind the lawyers asking for her “son” did she still need to run away. Probably not. But, hey we need her back on the island or Sawyer and Jack will have no one to fight over. Sayeed is still the smoking hot ex-military officer who fights his inner demons and a troubled past. I really wish they would add some more spice to his story. We haven’t seen much happen with his character since he fell in love on the island, only to have his love interest die.
Episode 6, “316,” had several symbolic images in it. We find Ben in the Church praying. He later compares Jack to the disciple Thomas for his lack of faith. We’ve always seen the hint of religion on Lost, as the writers have compared Locke, a man of faith, with Jack, the rational scientist. But, until now we’ve never seen such a direct comparison. If Jack is Thomas, then is Locke Jesus? Locke is dead and will somehow be resurrected from the dead. Maybe Lost is going just a little too far here trying to stretch the religious comparisons.
If the writers are really going for this comparison then the next question is which roles do the rest of the survivors play in this religious epic?
