Closure. That’s all I want. Closure.

In the world of things that are possible and not possible, can Clark and Lana just, please, make a clean break?

Let’s rewind through a ten-second back story.

Clark loves Lana, but she’s with another man; other man is later written out of story. Clark loses powers and Lana pops his cherry. Clark gets back powers and can’t commit to Lana. Lana sleeps with and marries evil nemesis, and gets pregnant. Lana not really pregnant, Lana runs off.

Does anyone feel a migraine coming on?

In Episode 14, ‘Requiem,’ Lana and Clark get back together one more time. Now that they both have powers they make the kind of earth shattering, bed quaking love that dreams are made of. These super-powered lovers are a match made in heave, or a small farm in Kansas.

Unfortunately, Lana’s powers came from a synthetic skin made by Luthor. And, as we all know anything Lex touches can never be good for the orphan from Krypton.

We later learn that Lana’s skin has the special ability to absorb Kryptonite. So, needless to say when a Kryptonite bomb is set to go off, Lana has no choice but to absorb it and save Metropolis. Sadly, all that Kryptonite in her system prevents her from being with the man she loves.

As much as I’ve been adverse to the back and forth Clark-Lana post-Luthor relationship, I’ve got to admit… the closing scene where Clark kisses Lana and nearly dies was one of the most powerful scenes on Smallville in a long time. Lex is really a cruel man. Too bad this episode also hints at his “supposed” death – NOT.

But, let’s face facts. Lana won’t be Super Lana forever. And, that means she can inevitably fall back into Clark’s arms. All I’m saying is, can a girl get some closure? A clean break? A Final hurrah?

Probably not. I guess, even on TV, you never really get over your first love.

A big round of applause goes out to the writing staff for introducing the Toyman in this episode. I’ve loved him since his days in the Legion of Doom on the Super Friends.
