If there’s one thing we’ve come to expect from Damages, it’s that this is one show that fulfills the cliche nothing is as it seems.
And this season, has added a touch of “Lost” to the format. Instead of just flashforwards, there are flashbacks - each adding tidbit after tidbit to unlocking this sumptuous puzzle.
We knew something was not right about Daniel Purcell the minute he hit the scene. It’s the one thing we learned from Patty - trust no one. Sure enough, Dan betrayed us all. We were there when a mysterious figure showed up at Purcell’s house. The ruby ring was the key to his wife’s murder. Once that was found, even our new, more compassionate Season 2 Patty believed one thing. Daniel Purcell was innocent.
Wrong.
In a shocking turn of events, after Daniel is exonerated from murdering his wife, Purcell betrays Patty in court denying the intricate corporate corruption he had so deftly sold Patty on. The result - Patty looking much the fool in front of a surprised courtroom.
Even more jarring to Patty was that earlier she felt sorry for Purcell, and introduced Daniel to the son she had kept from him.

So what exactly is Purcell’s deal? Was he out to make Patty look bad this whole time, and did he really kill his wife? And, who the heck does Ellen kill in the future anyway? We’ll find out more as this exciting season unfolds.
