You can’t keep a good samurai down and once you’ve held the number one headband, the only way out is death.
Samuel L. Jackson is back as Afro, the black samurai with an afro the size of a small continent, in the original movie ‘Afro Samurai: Resurrection.’ Get ready for a blood-lusting good time as Afro embarks on an all-new quest, slicing down everyone in his path.
For those unfamiliar with the Afro Samurai, here’s the back-story: after watching his father die in a fight to claim the number one headband as a child, he began the arduous task of becoming the best samurai. To do so, he had to challenge all the best samurai around until finally he obtained the number two headband, giving him right to challenge the number one samurai.
‘Afro Samurai: Resurrection’ takes place after the events of the Afro Samurai series. Afro avenged his father, besting the number one headband and giving up his sword lust.
When the mysterious and seductive Sio, voiced by Lucy Liu, steals the skeleton of Afro’s father, Afro starts an all-new adventure to save his father’s bones.
The motor-mouthed sidekick Ninja Ninja will join Afro once again as the voice of Afro’s conscience - calling out the truth and the calamity behind Afro’s adventure.
Fans of the Afro Samurai series, can expect a calmer Afro. But, he’s not anyone’s pansy. Afro is still ready to cut down anyone who gets in the way of claiming the number two head-band, and the right to challenge the number one.
Resurrection will tie up some loose ends from the original series. You’ll see the final fate of Afro’s childhood sword-brother Kuma, the teddy bear-headed warrior from the original ‘Afro Samurai’ series. If you’ve never seen the original series, Resurrection will quickly get you on the Afro bandwagon.
‘Afro Samurai: Resurrection’ premieres Sunday, January 25 at 10PM on SPIKE.
