It’s so rare to get a nugget of information on CBS’ The Unit, but Ausiello over at EW.com has the exclusive scoop that actor Wes Chatham (formerly of Showtime’s “Barbershop” series) has been cast into a recurring role on the show.

Chatham will play Sam, who is a new recruit to the team and seemingly the youngest. Expect some hazing and introductory storylines, similar to how the squad integrated Bob “Cool Breeze” Brown into the team during Season 1.

According to Ausiello:

“Word has it that Chatham will literally hit the ground running: Per a Unit insider, the actor will find himself at the center of an intense Bourne/Bond-style action sequence in his first episode, slated to air on March.”

I don’t know much about Chatham as I’ve never seen the Showtime show and he doesn’t have a long acting resume, but I’m psyched that CBS is investing more in The Unit. I hope this means that Chatham’s character will somewhat replace Bridget (”Red Cap”) Sullivan as the new team member.

The only question that’s left is what will his call sign be?

Met Wes last week during a visit to the set of The Unit. He may not have a long resume, but he does have some impressive credits under his belt. “In the Valley of Elah: and “Barbershop”. These are nothing to sneeze at.

I found Wes to be a sincere, warm and very down to earth person. He is taking his part of “Sam” to heart and mentione not wanting to learn too much about the team so his portrayal is more honest. I like that in an actor.

Call sign? Hmmm…lemme think about that one. =)
