After last week’s federal ruling that 20th Century Fox does indeed have some rights to distribute the upcoming Warner Bros. release, Watchmen, the studio is seeking to delay the March 6, 2009 release date of the film.
According to an interview with the Associated Press, Fox lawyer Randy Kender said he will seek the delay until legal issues have been resolved.
The ruling puts all sorts of pressure on Warner, who is exploring all options to appeal the case. At the very least, it appears that Warner will have to fork out some cash to either settle the lawsuit or share the film’s profits with Fox. They have said that they have no intention of shifting the film’s in-theater date.
