So, you’re looking for the right game to buy- right?. But, there are so many and only a few dollars in your pocket.
What did we do? We compiled a list of 10 games that are sure to bring a smile to even the most stoic gamer.
10 ) The World Ends With You - Nintendo DS
So, you thought Final Fantasy was the only RPG in town worth a dime? Wrong. Square-Enix released “The World Ends With You” in April. Square-Enix showed that they’re not afraid to try different things with this RPG. The story isn’t based in the Fantasy world nor the Disney World. Nope, it was based in Modern Day Tokyo, and was one of the top Nintendo DS releases for 2008.
9 ) Dead Space - Electronic Arts - Xbox 360, PS3
Mass Effect started a new trend in 2007 with the birth of well designed (for the most part) Sci-Fi RPG games. Well, Sci-Fi took a bold step with Dead Space giving you a unique space-based horror story, delivered in a shooter style game. We’re all about games with a good story at Buzz Focus, and Dead Space delivers. Not to mention killer graphics and an eerie sound score to shake even the coolest kid’s nerves.
8 ) Metal Gear Solid 4 - Konami - PS3
You can’t go wrong with Metal Gear Solid. The only draw back is that you can only get it on the PS3 right now. Unlike most games, Metal Gear consistently improves with ever sequel. Theoretically, this could have been the game to make the PS3 stage a championship claim on the console war. Alas, even a great game like Metal Gear Solid 4, won’t keep Sony afloat against the Wii.
7 ) Robocalypse - Tecmo - Nintendo DS
We’ve been looking for strategy games every year on the DS. Advanced Wars is the only franchise to really leave its mark. Until Now. Robocalypse strikes with a killer script, making it the 2008 RTS for the handheld system.
6 ) Wii Fit - Nintendo Wii
The Wii will never be known for the killer game, but it does have these games that are just — fun. And Wii Fit is one of those. Not to mention you can use the board to Surf in other games, makes Wii fit the ideal gift this year.
5 ) Gears of War 2 - Epic Games - Xbox 360
Contra on steroids, Gears of War 2 hit the game market in a big way with an upgraded online component that had players amped.
4 ) Fallout 3 - Bethesda Softworks - Xbox 360, PS3
Fallout 3 is kind of like Oblivion, only its not. It’s an RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world. How can you go wrong? This game will have you playing for hours and is well worth the $60 price tag.
3 ) Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe - Midway - PS3, Xbox 360
Mortal Kombat made its way back to the limelight. In the year of the Dark Knight, any game with the Batman and the Joker has to get attention. And Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was a winner. Of course, you’ll find the occasional cheese player, but it’s all in good fun.
2 ) Rock Band 2 - Harmonix Music - PS3, Xbox 360
Not every party game has to involve the Wii. Harmonix proved that you can have fun jamming to all the classic rock songs you grew up with and then some. With drums and all around better attachments - Rock Band kicked Guitar Hero to the curb. You can’t have a party without your Rock Band.
1 ) Grand Theft Auto IV - Rockstar Games - Xbox 360, PS3
Hey, when your lead character has a Russian accent - how can you not come in at number 1? Nuff said. Grand Theft Auto is the one franchise that keeps this gaming industry we love so much afloat.
