The fourth season of The Unit marked its midpoint tonight with Switchblade.
A continuation of episode 10, Misled and Misguided, Switchblade again featured Michael McKean as Department of Defense official Donald Metz, whose idiotic demands had the Unit go into action without time to prepare a working plan. Said actions somewhat worked cause the unit is just so awesome, but they got Betty Blue shot in the process.
This time, Jonas and team switched the tables with payback in mind. In control of the Unit’s transport plane, Jonas made sure that Metz was on their latest mission to extract an African president. The mission was typical Unit goodness on the action side, but I couldn’t help laughing every time that Metz almost wet his pants.
The writers seem fittingly worried that the “at-home” storylines are boring and are frequently leaving one of the men home to spice things up. Charles, who apparently teleported home and is now in a sling, encounters the latest tall good looking blond woman character, Joss. Her suspicious approach to Aerodyne is something to be worried about, but that doesn’t prevent Charles from falling for her hard. And when he falls hard, he falls prey to her father who wants some questions about Betty Blue’s background answered now.
As for the other home story, Kim finally gets to see her kids again. Given how crazy she was getting (not to mention almost getting killed), it was only a matter of time before the writers threw her a bone.
I thought that the Unit’s condescension with Metz made this episode, not to mention the shocking twist of the president being one of the men stuck in the kitchen. And the writers introduced just enough mystery with the introduction of Joss to make this a great middle of the season episode.
