There’s only one word to describe the season finale of Californication season 2. Heartbreak.

From beginning to end, fans felt nothing but heartbreak as they said goodbye to character favorites.

Lew Ashby. Dead. He was only with us for one season, but he will live on in our hearts. Sure, when we first met him, we thought he was nothing more than a stereotypical record-exec A-class sleaze ball. But, time proved different. It all started at his confession over losing his one true love. And, that’s where it ended. In between we were treated to glimpses behind his nonchalant exterior. His romantic date with Karen showed his thoughtful side. His moment with Becca in episode 11, showed his benevolent fatherly side. And then, the boy who never grew up died.

Of course it wasn’t all depressing. Two words. Black baby. Hank Moody threw up the touchdown sign when Sonya popped out a black baby, which was certainly not his. And with the touchdown, he took home the championship ring - Karen. Hank and his life-partner have decided to pack up shop and head back to New York.

Too bad love has a short life span in Californication. When Becca gets back with her kiss-happy boyfriend, Hank makes the “sacrifice” to stay in California for his daughter. Karen admits to only loving him more for his sacrifice, but then they part ways. Karen flies off into the sunset. Hopefully, she’ll return in season 3.

As for the Runkles, Charlie’s stint with Daisy saw a quick ending, or maybe more of a quickee ending. Daisy decides to have a sexual improv scene with her classmate, prompting Charlie to give her one last two second pounding. C’est la vie.

Charlie, reduced to a car salesman, hears that Vagina Town will be a success. But, Marcy’s lawyer is taking no prisoners, and all that V-Town money will be hers with the divorce. Here’s hoping that Marcy comes back as well.

So, there you have it. Tom Kapinos penned a winner with episode 12. Unfortunately, that also means that personal favorites Natascha McElhone (Karen) and Pamela Adlon (Marcy Runkle) don’t necessarily have to come back next season. But, Kapinos would be a fool not to bring them back.

I haven’t seen a discussion about this anywhere, so I guess white folks just think it’s true, but children born to Black Americans (or any brown person) don’t come out of the womb with dark skin. Whom ever is responsible for this story line should have done their research. How very ignorant.
