Lost Season 4 is coming to DVD, chock full of all the mystery, intrigue, and action we’ve come to love in this groundbreaking series.
Though Season 4 was cut short by the Writer’s Strike, the abridged season gave fans a more condensed tightly-developed story - without the filler.
Since its inception, Lost has always kept us on the edge of our seats. We lived through the characters, trying desperately to uncover the mystery of the island. The problem was that the writers had to keep the mystery going, without any idea of how long the mystery would last. The result: a lot of filler in our sandwich. Season 3 suffered from several episodes that made you think, “Was this necessary.”
Not so with season 4.
Lost’s announcement of an official 2010 end date, gave writers the reference point they needed to finally articulate the future of Lost - without leaving it up to chance.
Season 4 shifts from prior seasons by introducing the Flashforward. The mystery level was increased, and estranged viewers found a reason to return to the show that had captivated them for so long.
Perhaps one of the most brilliantly-confusing episodes of the season was episode 7, “Ji Yeon.” The episode combined flashbacks of Jin with flashforwards of Sun preparing to give birth.
But, let’s not forget the most important key to Lost’s success. The characters. A rift ensues between the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815, as several choose to follow John Locke over Jack. The ripple of this battle leads to the exciting two-part conclusion which came full circle with the prior season.
Season 4 also satisfied the viewer’s basic need for closure. The writers realized that overwhelming plot twists and unsolved mysteries estranged viewers. Several resolutions were reached in season 4 to prove that Lost was not just one massively muddled mystery. Loyal fans were finally treated to truths behind the island, one being time-travel. The season finale also revealed John Locke to be the mysterious body in the casket at the close of Season 3. Brilliant.
