Martin Scorsese is in talks to bring Emmy award winning Steve Buscemi back to HBO. Buscemi would come on board as a powerful rackateer in Scorsese’s period pilot “Boardwalk Empire.”
Buscemi, who would play the role of liquor mogul Nucky Johnson, has not been back to HBO since getting whacked during his Sopranos tenure.
HBO is looking for a new winner to join their dwindling lineup. Outside of the cult-following earned by True Blood, and the occasional Entourage viewer, HBO has been hard pressed to find a show that dominated as much as the Sopranos did. Empire, a story based on Nelson Johnson’s nonfiction book about the origins of Atlantic City, is an effort by HBO to reach out to their ostracized organized-crime fan base.
Kelly Macdonald is also in talks for a costarring role on the project.
