Well well well. If you like your Prison Break to be chock full of twists, then last night’s episode “Selfless” was right up your alley.
So it turns out that we’ve all been duped by one Agent Donald Self. And it was a great turn of events. There was nothing that lead us to believe this guy was nothing short of a freedom fighter, aiming to give The Company a permanent cast of heart burn. And you know, I originally wondered how could a good actor like Michael Rappaport join a show that’s in its twilight seasons and play such a low key role. But I guess we should come to expect anything from a show about breaking out of prison that lasts four seasons.
The best part about this development is that the Scylla recovery plot line will not be dragged out for the entire run; we can now shift to how the gang will get back at Self. What’s the game plan? Do they really have any freedom? Is there any leverage to actually recovering Scylla anymore? Will the general seek revenge for being made a fool of? Even more, was Self actually working for the Company? (The general did say they have agents everywhere). All these questions must be answered and it’s going to be a great ride to watch it all play out.
And there are other loose ends. I didn’t really care that Self killed Trishanne, but what happened to T-Bag? I’m sure he’s not dead, but there has to be a reasonable explanation why Self would keep him alive. And now, Gretchen is also on the run - what’s her new game now that Scylla is in the clutches of Self. One thing is for sure, Self better have himself a posse, because there’s a number of interested parties in the coveted device he now holds.
All in all, Prison Break Season 4 continues to impress. Sure it’s preposterous and sure they’re stretching the original idea like Thanksgiving leftovers, but that’s why we love it. I’m hoping this is the last season (they can’t possibly come up with anything new after this), but it sure is fun to watch.
