“You know what they say when you plot revenge? Always dig two graves”
- Jonas to Mack

The seven days between this two part episode of The Unit were far too much to bear, but the conclusion is finally here. The team continues their mission to rescue Betsy, while Mack still holds his vendetta with Colonel Ryan. This episode did bring a lot to the table, offering up a good share of suspense, action as well as a few lessons on love, heroism and redemption.

Let no man stand in the way of in the way of The Unit. Between Jonas threatening the innocent people with a bomb and the team’s complete neutralization of the terrorist captors, there was no stopping the mission. It was a nice touch to tease with Ryan’s death at the hands of the captors as well as his apologetic message in front of their video camera.

As with any fictional story, there were stretches of the imagination: The Unit finding Betsy faster than Google, the cleric risking his life for the Americans and Bridget’s faking defense authorization to get a extraction helicopter in the air. But I’m willing to forgive as the overall entertainment factor made these distractions less important.

The most important story of the night was the reveal of whether or not Mack would kill Ryan. Jonas, with his subtle way of persuasion, talks him out of doing it. And that kind of stings, given that the Ryan/Tiffy affair story has been culminating since the beginning. When we were forced to believe the punishment for Ryan’s treachery is death, it was very difficult imagine it ending without either Mack or Ryan dying. And yes, I wanted Mack to finish Ryan, but I guess the writers went the easy route: forgive and forget and let things regress to normalcy. I guess that act would’ve pretty much kill off two characters (because it would be hard to write for Mack afterwards), but come on, we were promised an explosive conclusion, but this one just fizzled.

What remains to be seen is where the team can go from here. He may have been saved, but is Ryan redeemed? Can he possibly still be an effective leader? Is Mack truly over the affair or will the issue persist? Will Betsy apologize to Bob for pulling Rank (thought that was the worst line of the night)? Tune in next week to see Kim get in on the action as we find out that her employer is funding the terrorists.
