According to an LA Times article, Beyonce wants to don wrist gauntlets and the lasso by playing DC Comics superhero Wonder Woman.
“I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman?”
“After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself, ‘OK, I need to be a superhero.”
You can appreciate the girl’s willingness to take one such an iconic role - but she shouldn’t hold her breath. She may stand a chance if Warner Bros (who is rumored as actively developing the project) goes the campy route. But honestly, her acting thus far leaves much to be desired. Even in her best role as star Deena Jones in Dreamgirls, she was ironically outmatched by Jennifer Hudson, who won the Oscar (not to mention veterans Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy).
Not only do I think she couldn’t hold up a film as the lead, I also think the very premise of a Wonder Woman feature film sounds a little risky. The TV show with Linda Carter worked because it was the 1970s and no one expected much. But watching Beyonce (or another actress) flying around in an invisible jet sounds like a Razzie waiting to happen.

Honestly, it’s great that Beyonce wants to do a superhero movie, but I think her perspective on the whole concept is off. Her comment retards superhero movies back to their 1960 hokey squalor. She puts comic based movies at polar opposites to movies with any emotion or plot.
Maybe I’m taking this one step too far. But, take recent movie success of the Dark Knight or Iron Man as the prime example of where superhero movies are going. Yes, it is fantasy, but they feel real. They feel as though, those events and characters can actually exist. Which is why they succeed.
Superhero movies should not be demeaned to Spider-Man 3, which was a total travesty in all senses of the word. They should be real and heart-felt but disturbing at the same time. The Dark Knight was a psychological thriller. Iron Man was more light-hearted but that was because of the character, and Downey did a superb job at characterization of Tony Stark. That’s only because he respected the character enough to believe Tony was real, and then didn’t take himself too seriously. But as observers we felt like this character could exist.
Wonder Woman on the other hand, is a very serious character. Just read her recent arc during Infinite Crisis. Well, that’s if you like to read and not just make comments off of 1960s FCC ruled TV.
Hey, these interviews are off the cuff, so you can’t fault her. Some people still think comic books are activities for little nerdy boys. Honestly, times have changed, and they should respect that. It’s an Alan Moore world. People want to be disturbed.
She is so full of herself. She is not wonder Woman for obvious reasons. I don’t even have to mention what those reasons are. you figure it out.
