WTF. That’s what episode 8 should have been titled.
Now don’t get me wrong, “Bloodline” was easily the best episode of the season to date. But everything gets lost in an abundant muddle of comic book references, excessive plot additions, and inconsistent character arcs.
When Lois and Clark end up in the Phantom Zone, the future couple have a chance meeting with Clark’s lost cousin Kara Zor-El. Kara helps Lois to escape the Phantom Zone. And who escapes with her? None other than General Zod’s wife, Faora. Crazy right?
Not really. But what follows is really crazy. When Faora takes over Lois body, she begins a hunt for her lost son. For recent followers of the Action Comics story arc, by Richard Donner, you may think that Faora and Zod’s son is a little boy by the name of Chris. Not so. In Smallville, their son is none other than Doomsday.
WTF. That’s right. WTF.
What a shock it was for Davis Bloome to learn that he wasn’t born. Nope, he was created from some residue of genetic material containing odds-and-ends of super-powered DNA.
Kara came back just to disappear again. Why’d our blonde-kryptonian vixen leave? To find Kandor. Wow, the writers are really throwing everything but the kitchen sink into this season of Smallville.
As for Chloe, she’s obviously harboring Brainiac, while Clark remains too self-absorbed to notice.
If it wasn’t for the sheer comic relief of watching the writers destroy all that was good with Smallville, I would have easily stopped watching a year ago.
