If there is one phrase to describe this season of “Heroes,” it’s “What the F?” After the Heroes/Villains hoopla at Comic Con, I found myself actually believing that my faith in Tim Kring would be revitalized after an atrociously slow and misguided second season.

Actually, let me step back and add something to that. My faith in Kring began dwindling after the season finale of Season 1. There was a massive build-up to the Peter/Sylar showdown that ended up becoming a woefully disappointed.

Enter season 2, and Heroes fans began forgetting that Heroes existed. “Oh, Heroes. I remember that show. It was the one where all the characters were just like X-Men and then got canceled second season, right?”

You wouldn’t be out of the ballpark for thinking that. The show may as well have been canceled. Hiro was out in Japan way too long and Alejandro and Maya storyline was a sure cure for insomnia. And, Sylar’s complete loss of power was the coup de gras.

Now, we’re six episodes deep into season 3, and I find myself torn as to my feelings on the show as a whole. Is it just bad? Or, is it simply a lingering bad aftertaste from the season 1 finale that just can’t be redeemed? I’m not sure. If season 2 was too slow, then season 3 seems rushed and convoluted.

What I do know is this:
- Mohinder Suresh having powers is total BS. And, the Dania/Mohinder love story was left-field. I guess Mohinder can’t be all science all the time. So, I’ll let the latter slide.

- Sylar turning into a good guy overnight, as if he’s the reverse of Anakin Skywalker (Episode 3: The Superfast Transition to the Dark Side), I can sort of live with.

- Hiro still yelling out ,”I must be a Hero,” is lame.

- I’m sure Ali Larter is a great person, but the writers just can’t figure out what the heck to do with her. Now she’s playing herself, only it’s not herself, it’s her “other” sister that no one knew about. Well, at least she has the Iceman power to freeze you stiff. Unfortunately, she’s one of the odd cases of people who were just injected with powers. Oh, if you don’t read comics, in X-Men they call it MGH , Mutant Growth Hormone (still waiting to hear back on the copyright case on that one).

- The countless resurrection stories need to go. There are just way too many people who can’t die. Though it looks like Adam Monroe “may” be finally dead.

- Daphne Millbrook being called a Speedster, as if she were a DC Comics Flash character, is outright theft. And for good measure, the producers chose to have her adorn the Flash’s colors.

- There is just way too much going on within the Petrelli family. They’re like the Illuminati of Heroes.

Quite honestly, Heroes still interests me. I want it to be good. I wish it were good. There are always moments that pique my interest. For instance, one of my favorite characters has become Maury Parkman. The reveal of Maury being the one behind the return of Linderman was a nice touch.

In “Dying of the Light” we finally got our long deserved Peter/Sylar battle. After skipping over it twice (end of season 1 and in the future arc when Nathan is revealed to be Sylar and is confronted by Peter), this was a great bone to throw to fans.

All in all, I’m still watching season 3 and still hoping that Hiro matures past his pubescent personality.
