Nooooo! That’s the sole word that rang through my mind after watching Dexter season 3 episode 4.

Dexter popped the big question to Rita, well really Rita and the kids - and instantly transformed into Dexter the Domesticated Serial Killer. No more Dark Avenger for this Miami killer. No, Dexter’s all about the church bells, ribbon and PTA meetings.

Now, I know how Anakin felt when he got burnt to a crisp, only to find out Padme was dead.

Who would have thought, so many eons ago, that the anti-hero we grew to love in Dexter season 1 would conjure up the heart to propose. Marriage. Sure, he had to work his way through a few laughably flawed and overtly awkward attempts at a proposal, but in the end he still found the courage and the acting prowess to show some ‘gosh-darn’ emotion.

Oh, don’t think Dexter’s Grinch like heart, stops growing there. Not by a long shot. This guy is out to become the dominant friendly-killer in Whoville, Miami.

Miguel Prado concedes that Dexter is the one person he can confide in. Why do I feel like I want to barf? Dexter with friends is as absurd as the Red Sox winning the World Series. Oh, wait… I guess they did that. So, really, it’s not that outlandish at all. Just different. And, you know what? I’ll buy it.

Sure, Contemporary Dexter and Old-School “Harry” Dexter stand at odds for the moment, but how long can that really last?

Season 4 has focused purely on the build up of Dexter’s “human side,” which is something he’s becoming more comfortable with portraying. It takes him away from the stereotypical serial-killer profile and gives him his very own secret identity.

I only wonder what lies next this season. Four episodes into season 3 and viewers are left without any real mystery or hook in the plot. Obviously, lets keep in mind that we still have the Chicky Hines case looming over Miguel Prado. And something has got to be up with Debra’s partner or why, waste our time.

The only questions is: will keeping a secret and changing diapers be the most dangerous things Dex will have to deal with this year? Probably, not.

And, I’ll co-sign that one with the typical one-dollar Mortimer/Randolph in “Trading Place” style bet.

Any takers?
