Surprisingly, tonight’s episode of Entourage was heavier on the drama and lighter on the comedy and it felt longer than most as a lot of things happened. In “ReDOMption,” we get another visit from Vince’s childhood friend Dom while Ari tries to bet Vince’s way into the Smoke Jumpers movie.
I’ve got to admit that I, like many other Entourage fans, subscribed to the train of thought that Dom’s first visit to the show was a terrible distraction and waste of time. Just as he annoyed the pants off of E, Turtle and Drama, I also hated the mere sound of his voice. Anyway, tonight was the writer’s way of showing that even the worst of us deserve some redemption (or reDOMption). The 5th guy from Queens finds himself calling Vince for help after being the target of an OJ Simpson-esque car-chase on the news. Thing is, this version of Dom not only tells the truth, but is the proud father to a four-month old baby. Who knew? I even felt sorry for the guy when he’s ushered back to jail to serve a lengthy sentence.
But even better than the Dom return was Ari’s classic golf match with studio head Alan Gray and golf pro Phil Mickelson. Doing his best to hustle Gray into bettingĀ Vince into the movie, Ari ends up a few putts shy of taking home the prize. However, he does animate Alan past what his heart can handle - Gray drops dead from a heart attack. Can’t say that I saw THAT coming - but as Drama posits, this development does clear the way for Vince to be in the movie.
On the lighter side of things, Turtle spends a day as Drama’s assistant and has to cater to his diva-like tendencies. Even better than Drama’s ridiculous demands is the way Turtle gives him the middle finger and quits at day’s end. We also get another quick sighting on Bow Wow as Charlie. Overall, this was a good memorable episode and now marks the halfway point of the season. I have no idea if the writers intend on Vince making any comeback this season, but it’s not looking likely at this point. Tune in at the same time next week as we see if Ari will take Alan Gray’s job after being offered it.
