If there’s one thing that Dexter Morgan can instantly recognize, it’s another person that has a dark and dangerous alter ego. While grocery shopping with Rita and the kids, Dexter comes across a fellow predator - but this one appears to be a pedophile. Said fellow crosses the line when he talks with Astor and Dexter must step in and determine if he truly violates “The Code.”
Meanwhile, Debra has a new homicide to solve, a mysteriously skinned Jane Doe that may be linked to Freebo. But Dexter knows that Freebo is not the culprit, so he must find a way to help Debra identify their murder victim, thus proving that Freebo didn’t do the crime. While doing this, Dexter learns that Miguel Prado wants Dexter to be his friend.
But just how smart is it for Dexter, a serial killer, to befriend an Assistant District Attorney?
Dexter has a great moment when Debra talks to him about the pregnancy and Debra tells Dex that the pregnancy isn’t about him, it’s about the baby. Apparently, our favorite serial killer can escape being identified as the Bay Harbor Butcher, but he can’t escape evolving into a truly family man.
After three episodes, I’m undecided as to whether or not I like the new direction Dexter is taking this season. I can’t say that I’m enthralled that Dex is becoming buds with Prada, but at the same time, I’m loving the fact that he’s evolving as a nighttime vigilante. The violation of Harry’s code in the debut was just the trick to eliminate any monotony in Dexter’s antics. I guess if that’s what it takes to make Dexter feel emotional towards his child - great. But, it’s still a new Dexter, and will take some getting used to.
