Hitting DVD shelves is the second season of NBC’s 30 Rock, which is fresh off of 7 Emmy Awards.
Despite being shortened by the writer’s strike, the show’s sophomore season was even better than its freshman effort. The writing and acting went from great to spectacular. And while the comedy doesn’t hit home runs in the ratings department, it should have your attention because it is truly is one of the funniest shows on television today.
Tina Fey returns as Liz Lemon, a producer on a show much like her former Saturday Night Live. And as great as Fey is as Lemon (and as show writer and producer), co-star Alec Baldwin (Jack Donaghy) routinely steals every scene he’s in. Also rounding out the great cast are Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer.
What really makes this season sparkle is the great cameos from TV veterans like Jerry Seinfeld, Edie Falco and David Schwimmer. Again, it’s only 15 episodes long, but is a great pickup and has a ton of replay value.
