Dexter Season 3 Episode 2 Rundown: 'Finding Freebo'

Our old pal and hero’s days as a blood spatter expert are numbered. He barely survived his rivalry with Sergeant Doakes in Season 2. And with daydeams of baby names and the fear of bringing Dexter Jr. into the world monopolizing his time, he’s hardly the razor sharp strategist we befriended in Season 1.

In Episode 2, “Finding Freebo,” Dexter loses a key battle to his girlfriend Rita. Cons outweighing the pros, Rita is still all for having the child of a serial killer. Strike one for Dexter.

Debra Morgan is a stone throw away from grasping the coveted title of Detective. She unlocks the connection between the murdered Jane Doe and Freebo. The one piece of information that was keeping Dexter ahead of the Miami PD. Now Dexter is forced to make his move against Freebo without the meticulous planning he had become legendary for.

Strike two.

That’s not all. Prado has discovered the same information as Dexter. The address of the murdered Jane Doe Freebo was dating. What happens when Prado gets to the house. He’s comes face to face with the man who is doing what he set out to do - killing Freebo. Now you’d think that this would put Dexter at a disadvantage. Instead, Prado embraces Dexter as a brother for killing Freebo in his stead. I guess both Dexter and Prado have a surrogate brother in each other to turn to, now that their biological brothers are six feet under.

So ok, Dexter misses out on the third strike, right?

Nope. As Prado embraces Dexter as a brother, the blood from Dexter’s knife wipes on Prado’s shirt. Evidence.

Strike three.

And so begins the end of Dexter. Well not really the end. This is a winning property for Showtime, and the fans want more. I’m sure that alone will keep Dexter from an early retirement.
