Up for DVD release today is Forgetting Sarah Marshall, a Judd Apatow take on one guy’s attempt to recover from a serious case of heartbreak. FSM is in the same vein of romantic-disaster-comedy humor as Apatow’s “40 Year Old Virgin” and presents a humorous look at break-ups from the male perspective.

The Movie

Peter (Jason Segel) is blindsided when his celebrity girlfriend Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) breaks up with him unexpectedly. Making the situation worse is the fact that she is dating a British Rock star.
The hilarious awkward antics continue when Peter travels to Hawaii to forget his sorrow, only to find out that she also is vacationing there as well with her new boyfriend. He enlists the help of the hotel staff to make him finally forget Sarah Marshall.

If you like your comedy romantic and raunchy, then FSM delivers with surplus. At just under two hours, it plays a little long. As for Segel in his first starring role, you can count on him for a good serving of laughs, especially through his apparent ability to cry on the spot for pity (lest I forget to mention the totally unnecessary frontal nudity shots). Balancing the film out are Bell and Mila Kunis, who plays the typical role of hot girl that enables the geek-to-chic transformation.

Special Features

Universal jam-packed this DVD with special features and, as such, needed three whole discs to contain it. This unrated edition contains a digital copy of the movie that will allow you to easily transfer it to your computer (nice touch).

Also included are the typical deleted and extended scenes, outtakes, trailers and behind-the-scenes production diaries and a plethora of offbeat features that will keep you busy for the better part of 2 hours.

The Verdict

If you split your guts laughing at 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up, then you will definitely like FSM, which has an even more clever style of humor and charm than those two movies. And if you buy your DVDs for the special features, than this one is chock full of them.
