“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” returned Sept. 18 with another uproariously funny and bizarre episode.
In “Mac & Dennis: Manhunters,” an illegal sampling of Frank’s “special meat” leads the Sunny crew to new bizarre antics on the streets of Philly.
Frank (Danny DeVito) decides to teach Dee (Kaitlin Olson) and Charlie (Charlie Day) a lesson by tricking them into believing they’ve eaten human meat. Unsure as to whether they’ve really eaten human, Dee and Charlie venture to Chinatown to sample every type of meat, including monkey. Unfortunately, nothing in Chinatown tastes quite as sweet as human meat, and their craving leads them to the morgue with a hotplate and an insatiable appetite. Frank sees the pair getting ready to chow down on a savory piece of human and reveals to Charlie and Dee that they really ate raccoon meat.
Just the thought of human hunting peaks Mac and Dennis’ curiosity. The duo go on a manhunt to earn their stripes. But, their prey ends up being too much for the Mac and Dennis to handle.
Throughout the episode, Frank quotes moments in his life that were really stolen from different Sylvester Stallone movies. Everyone calls him out on the Rambo references, but Frank stays committed to his fictitious past.
“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” once again proves you don’t need a ridiculously large budget and excessive stunt casting to get a laugh. Mix good writing and a committed cast, with just the right touch of production aesthetics, and you’ve got a hit a night after night.
