After what seems like forever, Entourage is back on tube with a season premiere that was literally too fast, too furious. And I’m glad it’s back. The fifth season kicked off in definitive fashion tonight with its first episode, “Fantasy Island.”

It was inevitable; Vince’s career has been given a standing eight count after his passion project, Medellin, bombed at the Cannes Film Festival (Said film was so bad that it became a direct to DVD release). Now we find the down-and-out thesp some months later at a resort in Mexico, riding jet skis with fellow slacker Turtle. For $79 a day, the two are completely forgetting that a real world exists as they bag women like oranges in the produce aisle.

Back in the states, we find that E has stepped up his game and now has Charlie (Bow Wow) as a client. Bow Wow actually did a decent job and he managed to not make me throw up (Good job BW!). I can’t see him playing a stand-up comedian still, but I’ll save that for another post.

As for Ari, he gets a too-good-to-be-true phone call from producer Carl Ertz, who has a film called Danger Beach that he wants Vince to star in. And in true Entourage fashion, a deal needs to be made in 24 hours or it’s a no-go. So Ari, E and Drama (who channels his inner diva during a photo shoot) make it their mission to bring back “Baby Bro” so that he can revive his career.

After we’re treated to some amazing visuals during the plane ride south of the border, we finally see the gang of 5 together again. Of course, Vince doesn’t care about shooting the movie (I’m getting sick of this guy acting like he doesn’t care about his career). After some prodding, E convinces him to give it a shot. But who knew what crazy twist was ahead; Ertz didn’t want Vince to star, he just wanted to pressure agent Adam Davies into signing client Emile Hirsch for less money. Oh, Entourage - how you toy with us. The joke’s on Vince and Ari, but at least it got our star back in the states, ready to get his career back. And it seems like he finally is up for the challenge.

All in all, Fantasy Island was worth the wait (I sure wish the episodes were longer). While nothing (really) transpired on the screen, the writers were successful at setting the tone, implicitly promising that the upcoming episodes will deliver the goods. And I’ve got to give them kudos for moving on quickly and not having Vince sulk in his Medellin failure for more than 1 episode. It’s time for the crew to bring Vince back to the top or move on and allow their own careers to flourish. I’ve got to say, I’ve never been a big fan of Vince’s character, but he really has the opportunity to truly shine in this season.

Tune in next week at the same time for the second episode, “Unlike a Virgin” where Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester returns and Justin Chapin.
