DVD Review: Heroes Season 2

Releasing today on DVD is the second season of NBC’s Heroes. Blame it on the writer’s guild strike, but the sophomore season of this juggernaut show didn’t quite live up to the hype that the first season built.

On the other hand, a decent season of Heroes is better than most TV out there. 6,000 people didn’t stand in line at San Diego Comic-Con to see the Heroes panel for nothing.

This good thing about this DVD is that die-hard fans will appreciate all the bells and whistles that it provides. What I like most about NBC and Universal releases is that they go all out when it comes to offline/interactive content and DVD special features. As expected, this 4 Disc set is chock full of behind-the-scenes footage as well as content from the Heroes mythos.

Besides the 11 episodes that made up Season 2, you’ll get a look into what would’ve happened if the writer’s strike hadn’t shortened the season. Tim Kring (show creator) had a whole story arc planned out that never saw the airwaves.

There are also many features that were included on the official Heroes website, like audio commentary of every episode and executive producers breaking down how several pivotal scenes of the season were put together. Pressing through the special features, you can get a sense of how much talent and creativity go into creating the show.

And if you’re dying to see anything from the upcoming third season, this set has a Sneak peek look at the making of the premiere episode.

Heroes returns on September 22 at 8PM on NBC.
