Smallville is getting a double dose of bizarre villain infusion for its eighth and final season.
Charlotte Sullivan joins Sam Witwer, who will play Doomsday, as Smallville’s new villainous combo. Sullivan will play a lowly character in the Superman mythos known as Maxima. For the less savvy comic-followers, Maxima is a member the Royal family of the planet Almerac. She’s a hot-tempered psionic, who has traveled to earth to find a suitable mate. And, what better mate than a stranded Kryptonian farm-boy named Clark Kent.
Talk about left field. Sure, Michael Rosenbaum jumped ship. But, it would have been a better choice to introduce Darkseid or Parasite to the story. Heck, I’d even prefer to see Mister Mxyzptlk or Toyman, than a random love sick mate-hunter from another planet with an imminently mutilated rendition of the Doomsday character.
Oh well. With Smallville’s strong female audience, the development team opted to go with more love triangles for the final season of Smallville.
Sullivan is scheduled to make her Smallville debut in the fourth episode of season eight, entitled “Instinct.”
Smallville returns for season 8, September 18, 2008 on the CW.
