Today’s 24 Panel was a great payoff for fans of the show awaiting its Season 7 return. And surprisingly, it wasn’t Kiefer Sutherland who was the star of the show.

He shared the spotlight with fan favorite Carlos Bernard, who came on stage last and was greeted with raucous applause. And he displayed time and time again that he is quite the comedian (maybe Fox should cast him in a comedy).

But seriously, this was a great panel. Joining Kiefer and Carlos were the show’s executive producer Howard Gordon, producer and director Jon Cassar, and writers Manny Coto, co-executive producer Carlos Coto, co-executive producer Brennan Braga, executive producer Evan Katz and executive producer David Fury.

Spoilers Below!

It all started with a great trailer for the Day 7 prequel - filmed in Africa. The new president is being sworn in and Jack is in South Africa, apparently helping children escape the regime that forces them to be soldiers. Jack engages in an awesome shootout with the soldiers.

The panel answered a series of questions about the show like:

What was the genesis of the prequel movie?
The creative team and Kiefer wanted to do a brief 7-10 minute prequel scene to be aired on the movie. Fox big-wigs liked the idea but wanted them to make a 2 hour movie.

Did the direction of the show change because of the writer’s strike?
The long break allowed the writers a freedom of creativity that allowed them to make the writing deeper than anything before.

[To Carlos] What’s it like to be back working with the show?
After a number of jokes, Carlos commends the amazing people that come together to create the show and jokes about how he hasn’t had much work since being “killed off” in Season 5. He ends saying it’s been his best year on the show.

[To Kiefer and Carlos] Which is your favorite episode?
Kiefer answered that he believes they haven’t shot it yet (implying that the best of 24 is yet to come). In comical fashion, Carlos delivers pretty much the same answer. However, Kiefer did state that Hours 8-11 of Day 7 stand out as something he’s really excited for.

[To Carlos] Will Tony rock his signature “soul patch”?
“That, sir, is none of your business” (jokingly)

And, of course, the obvious question of When do the characters go to the bathroom?
Kiefer fielded this one and stated that they actually filmed a scene where he went into a bathroom and handled his business in 9 seconds, but it was left out of the final product.

The panel ended with yet another teaser trailer, this one perfectly cut and narrated to air on Fox. They all received a standing ovation and everyone left hyped to see some more of their favorite TV action hero later this fall. As a special touch, Kiefer, attending his first Comic-Con, delivered a sincere statement of gratitude for the fans and their support.

Great job to the cast and creative talent of 24 - you make us fans proud.
