After three strong seasons of what may arguably be the greatest animated series of new millennium, Avatar the Last Airbender has come to an end.

The four-part movie was definitely a rewarding close to the epic bending saga. Zuko was reunited with Uncle Iroh, the Avatar reclaimed his sacred Avatar State, and all the unsung relationships were finally realized.

In the end, the animated series ended on a high-note. If only all shows could end in a “Blaze of Glory,” rather than ending as an already forgotten memory.

I could have done with a little more Uncle Iroh action, but in the light of Mako’s (Voice talent of Iroh for seasons 1 and 2) passing, it’s understandable.

But, it’s not over for the Avatar. Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino are hard at work on a 2010 live-action Avatar movie. Sound bizarre? It sure does. Just about as bizarre as Leonard DiCaprio directing a live-action “Akira” movie staged in New York.

The new Avatar movie, entitled “The Last Airbender,” will be directed and produced by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs). We’ve already been given a taste of what to expect (well outside the whole live-action thing) in the upcoming film.

In part 4 of Sozin’s Comet, Konietzko and DiMartino foreshadowed one possible ancillary plot line. Newly crowned Firelord Zuko, asked his father for his mother’s whereabouts. Undoubtedly, the movie will touch on the search for Zuko’s mom. Plus, we never found out what happened to Zuko’s sister, so expect her to resurface for the movie.

As for what else to expect, rest assured we’ll be delivering up to date news on all things Avatar leading up to the movie. Pre-production plans and casting have begun, so we’ll see how that turns out soon enough. Hopefully, the movie won’t tarnish the memory of an awesome animated series.
