A press release by HBO confirms several rumors about Entourage’s 5th season and highlights some returns of prior guest cast members.

When we last saw the gang, they were weathering the critical bashing of their film Medellin at the Cannes Film Festival in France. It became pretty apparent that Vinnie Chase’s passion project wasn’t going to be a hit and that his career is in serious jeopardy.

In Season 5, the film will get panned by Chicago Tribune film critic Michael Phillips. In fact, the season will open with Phillips and venerable critic Richard Roeper bashing the Chase flick.

Coming back to the frey will be Carla Gugino, who play Vince’s post-Ari agent-turned-into-love-affair. Also returning as Vince’s new flame will be Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), who you may remember as Justin Chapin back in Season 1.

On the business side of things, I’m glad to report that Paul Ben-Victor will return as Alan Gray and Martin Landau will be back as Bob Ryan

There’s also new guest stars galore on the show as E (Kevin Connolly) will apparently become quite the popular star manager. As we reported before, he will manage a stand up comic (played by Bow Wow), but he will also manage 2 screenwriters played by Lukas Haas and Giovanni Ribisi. Also joining the show will be Kevin Pollak and Fran Drescher will play the Levines, “a pretentious Beverly Hills couple.”

And the following actors will play themselves. You already know about Jamie-Lynn Sigler, but also joining are NBC co-chairman Ben Silverman, the hosts of “The View,” Tony Bennett, Eric Roberts and show Executive Producer, Mark Wahlberg.

And if you want to know how HBO sums up this season, read the following:

“In season five, Vince must find a way to rejuvenate his career. His best friend and manager Eric is determined to get Vince back to the top, while struggling with his expanding management company. Agent Ari Gold, who is having a few career conflicts of his own, struggles to deliver for Vince, given the current state of things.  Drama, meanwhile, continues his successful television career while experiencing problems in his love life, and Turtle is forced to reexamine his contribution to it all.”

There you have it. The 5th Season of Entourage is chock full of stars and is shaping up to be a great anchor for HBO’s Sunday night. Tune in on September 7 for the season premiere.
