Whether you’re a DC Comics lover or an avid video game fan, you’ve probably been following the buzz on the upcoming Midway release of “Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.”
We’re still on the fence on how this game will play out. Mortal Kombat was made famous for it’s unique use of Fatalities when defeating your opponent. Everyone remembers licking their lips when they first ripped out the spine of their opponent in the late 90s.
And when Mortal Kombat was announced to blend with DC, who didn’t dream of being Superman and tearing poor saps spine? I know I did. But Warner Bros. is about PR, and Superman will forever be the sap whose spine we’d like to rip out. So, this latest incarnation of Kombat has been watered down. Well not fully watered down. The DC Heroes won’t be able to do fatalities, but the DC villains and regular Mortal Kombat stars will be able to kill with all the gore we so viciously love. DC Heroes will have something called a “Brutality,” which will by its name be brutal, just not fatal. Yeah, it kind of sucks. But, oh well.
Hopefully, some cool game programmer on staff will make a mod that allows the real Kombat fans to see Batman and Superman perform some of the more vile fatalities.
Well in other news, two new characters will be announced on Spike TV this Friday.
This Friday, Spike TV’s “GameTrailers with Geoff Keighley” presents an exclusive look at Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. Spike TV and GameTrailers.com announced yesterday that two never-before-seen characters from Midway’s upcoming Mortal Kombat® vs. DC Universe, licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, will be revealed this Friday night, July 4th at 1:00am ET/PT on “GameTrailers TV” in HD. Tune in to discover which two villains from the Mortal Kombat/DC multiverse will be joining the ranks of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Superman and Batman as playable characters in the upcoming fighting game.
I for one, wouldn’t mind seeing the Joker in Mortal Kombat. Or maybe Darkseid. Damn, imagine a Joker Fatality? He’d probably rip your teeth out then let them eat your unmentionables.
Also, for anyone looking to follow the latest on Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, Midway announced the launch of the official Mortal Kombat podcast, the MKast.
Found at www.worldscollide.com, each episode will reveal new features and secrets of one of the videogame industry’s most successful franchises. Each MKast will feature members of the Mortal Kombat development team along with surprise special guests and will tackle topics ranging from development, Mortal Kombat history, Mortal Kombat secrets, special Q&A sessions and more!
The debut episode features the vocal talents of Senior Producer, Hans Lo, and Associate Producer, Hector Sanchez. They speak in-depth about the birth of the MKast and the production of the latest Mortal Kombat title, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.
Honestly, all we want to know is, when will you take the gloves off and let Superman be more like Red Kryptonite Superman. He wants to rip a spine out, and we all want to be the ones to make it happen.
