Coming to ABC Family tonight is a fresh entry in the high school drama catalog, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” created by 7th Heaven’s Brenda Hampton. Not since the movie Juno are you in for a daring look into what goes on in the minds of teenagers growing up in today’s world.
In Grant High School, everyone has secrets. But secrets are meant to be kept, right? Wrong. First you have Amy, who is hiding her pregnancy from her mom Anne. Then you have Grace, who’s dating Jack. But Jack hooked up with Adrian, who secretly likes Ricky. And Ricky, well, him and Amy have the biggest secret of them all.
Filling out those characters is a great cast featuring veterans and fresh faces alike. It all starts with Molly Ringwald, who has come full circle since her early days in “Sixteen Candles” and “The Breakfast Club.” Ringwald, will play Anne Jeurgens, a loving mother of two who is going through trials and tribulations with her husband.
Also in the mix are Shailene Woodley as Amy, Francia Raisa as Adrian, Kenny Baumann as Ben, Daren Kagasoff as Ricky, Megan Park as Grace and Greg Finley as Jack.
Watch Out For Francia Raisa
Raisa plays Adrian Lee, who has the rare talent of being the resident bad-girl and a great student simultaneously. To stir up the drama, she goes behind Grace’s back to cheat on Jack, but she really has a crush on Ricky. Raisa is an emerging talent to watch out for and is fresh off of starring in the ABC Family movie “The Cutting Edge III: Chasing the Dream.” You’ve also probably seen her in Nickelodeon Films’ Shredderman Rules and Bring in On: All of Nothing opposite Hayden Panettiere.
Another small screen veteran on the show is John Schneider, who we all know from his days on “Dukes of Hazzard” and, of course, “Smallville“. Schneider will play Grace’s overprotective father, Marshall Bowman.
“Secret Life” should be a great addition to the current set of summer drama offerings. Be sure to tune in to this brand new drama, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” for its premiere Tuesday, July 1 at 8/7c.

I can’t wait to watch this new drama and see some of my favorite old timers as well!
