In Plain Site - USA NetworkPremiering this Sunday on the USA network is “In Plain Sight,” a fresh new entry in the crime-drama catalogue. Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack - “The West Wing”, “ER”) is a tough, gritty U.S. Marshall protecting relocated informants in the highly secretive Witness Protection Program.

Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the IPS’s pilot episode wastes no time in showing just how dangerous this line of work is. Mary is tasked with protecting a mobster that has agreed to testify against his boss. However, things get hectic when his son is brutally killed. Even more, an old associate of this gangster is in town to silence him. Armed with a glock and a beat-down Ford Probe, Mary springs into action to solve the mystery and protect her target. Interesting Side note: That mobster and his wife just happen to be played by Al Sapienza and Kathrine Narducci of HBO’s “The Sopranos.”

An interesting dichotomy is presented in the show as we get to see Mary help others in need while her own life remains a mess. She faces relationship struggles from both her on-again-off-again boyfriend, Raphael (Christian de la Fuente - Dancing With the Stars) and her live-in mother, Jinx (Lesley Ann Warren). No one seems to quite “get her,” including her stiff and sarcastic partner, Marshall (Frederick Weller). Yeah, he’s a Marshall named Marshall - the names on this show are peculiar, to say the least.

McCormack is great in the lead role, summoning up just enough toughness and brazenness to be believable in this bad-ass / detective role. She also has a good helping of wit, charm and humor to make the ride fun. Rounding out the top notch cast is Paul Ben-Victor (The Wire, Entourage) who plays Mary’s boss.

IPS promises to have interesting stories and will take a deep dive into the Witness Protection Program like no other show has done before. Tune in, you’ll see that this is a great summer find.

In Plain Sight debuts Sunday June 1st at 10PM / 9PM C on USA. Check out the video below to get the gyst of what the show is about:
