It’s confirmed, Allison Mack who plays spirited reporter Chloe Sullivan on Smallville will be returning for Season 8.
Rumors of Mack’s departure from Smallville came hot on the heels of Michael Rosenbaum’s (Lex Luthor) announcement on leaving the CW TV series.
TV Guide reports that Mack’s new contract will call for the actor to appear in all episodes of Season 8. With Rosenbaum not returning full time as Lex and Kristin Kreuk announcing she will only appear in a few episodes as Lana, Smallville execs decided that Mack was necessary to keep Smallville alive and kicking. No doubt, Mack’s representation probably leveraged Rosenbaum’s leaving as a bartering chip in negotiations.
Quite honestly without Allison, Smallville would easily lose much of the flair it has garnered over the past 7 years. Her role as the backseat-lover computer-genius sidekick to Clark Kent was the spice that kept Smallville from becoming another redundant Superman story arc. Plus her romance sideline romance with Clark is easily more interesting than watching Clark and Lana or Clark’s awkwardness with Lois.
Smallville has steadily been losing a lot of its main actors, not to mention the producers. Hopefully, Season 8 will be on par with prior seasons and Clark Kent won’t end up crashing before he learns to fly.
