Apple has announced that HBO has signed on to distribute its “Original Series” content through the iTunes service. However, you can expect to pay up if you want to download episodes of “The Sopranos.”
This marks the first time that Apple will sell TV shows above the $1.99 price point. CEO Steve Jobs was adamant about “one price,” simplifying the purchasing process for consumers. However, if Apple wants to sell more iPods and iPhones, it behooves them to be flexible to studios that want to offer different price points for new and old shows.
If you fire up iTunes right now, you’ll see that you can download episodes of The Sopranos, Deadwood and Rome for $2.99. However, HBO is offering its other series like The Wire, Flight of The Concords and Sex and the City for $1.99.
