After a lackluster start to the Spring season for box office ticket sales, Hollywood is indeed back on the map for 2008.

“Iron Man” has delivered a much needed win for Hollywood. But getting to that point was a rollercoaster of emotions for hardcore fans. Most were all on board when news of an “Iron Man” movie hit the streets. Unfortunately, after all the in-your-face marketing from Marvel, many wondered if “Iron Man” would be more glitz than substance.

Well believe the hype. Jon Favreau has delivered an excellent comic adaption for the new millennium. Robert Downey Jr.’s performance was superb. Yes, he delivered Tony Stark as only a man of Robert’s countenance can, but he also took the character to new heights by not taking himself too seriously when the situation called for an over-the-top performance.

The movie was well paced enough to not be “Transformers.” And it had just the right amount of comedic humor to not be riddled with the poor-cliche dialogue of the “Spider-Man” movies.

“Iron Man” is a movie that anyone can enjoy even if you’ve never read a comic in your life. Hopefully, “The Incredible Hulk” can deliver with the same level of intensity, writing and visuals as this film.

After two weeks at the number one ticket sales spot, “Baby Mama” has stepped down to the “Iron Man.” In it’s opening weekend “Iron Man” grossed $100,750,000, already trumping the 32 Million cumulative sales for “Baby Mama” and 44.8 Million cumulative sales for “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.”

“Iron Man” has become the saving grace to an impending Hollywood recession. The question remains, whether other comic related movies and novel adaptions will further spark 2008 sales. Going into the summer we have three movies with a strong cult and popular following: “Prince Caspian” hits theaters May 15, “The Incredible Hulk” hopefully smashes on June 13, and the “Dark Knight” returns July 18.

Not to mention the 2008 will go out with a wizardly bang with the sixth movie in the Harry Potter series “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

There were a few easter eggs in Iron Man. Jim Rhodes (Terrence Howard) says, “Next time baby” when he sees the silver Iron Man suit. Rhodes becomes Iron Man’s protege War Machine in the Marvel Comics series. Also for those die hard comic fans who know to stay until the end of the credits, you got to glimpse Nick Fury (Sam Jackson), head of S.H.I.E.L.D, referencing a possible “Avengers” spin-off movie.
