Smallville takes a page from “It’s a Wonderful Life,” as Clark gets a glimpse at a world without a Superman … or a Clark Kent (Superman flies).
At first glance, everything is “swell” in Smallville, both Chloe and Lana are doing well and have found love outside of Kryptonian flings. Lois Lane is a reporter at the Daily Planet, and finds our floating non-existant Kal-El attractive.
So, everything is great, right? Wrong! When Lois is arrested by Kara Zor-El, Clark realizes that Lex Luthor is now president of the United States. How’d he do it? By saving the world from meteor freaks.
When Clark learns that Brainiac and Lex Luthor are about to take the world to the brink of a nuclear war, Clark goes undercover as a reporter for the Daily Planet. It’s a comic book throwback moment when Lois puts glasses on our Superman to-be to up his earthly disguise.
Though Kara was raised looking up to Lex as a brother in this new world, her inate moral fiber leads her to question Lex’s judgement.
Clark and Kara try to confront Lex, but not before Lex shoots Clark with kryptonite bullets. Lex doesn’t stop there, Kara takes the a kryptonite bullet to the shoulder next.

Brainiac reveals his ultimate plan, to destroy Earth’s human population. Then Lex will serve as Zod’s vessel to the earth, with Kara as his wife.
With the final Kryptonite bullet delivered to Kal-El’s head, Jor-El is revealed as the mastermind behind Clark’s vision. And, Clark decides it’s time to make the journey back in time to Krypton - pre-destruction. Together the Clark and kis cousin Kara thwart Brainiac’s diabolical plan.
Unfortunately, destroying Brainiac doesn’t save Lana Lang from her catatonic state. Lex makes a visit to the Kent farm to offer his “help,” which Clark swiftly rejects.
We get another glimpse at the budding relationship between Clark and Lois when Lois treats a dejected Clark to a night on the town.
And what’s the big finish? We end on Kara falling to the floor in pain as her eyes seem to change to a milky white color. Could Lex be responsible for this? Or is Brainiac still alive and kicking?
Only a few more episodes left in the seventh season of Smallville. Here’s hoping for a big finish.
Tom Welling directed the episode written by Turi Meyer & Al Septien.
