Jimmy Fallon to host The Late Night ShowMaking recent rumors come true, Jimmy Fallon has been tapped as Conan O’Brien’s 2009 replacement as host of the Late Night talk show on NBC. O’Brien is set to take over the reigns of the Tonight Show when Jay Leno’s contract runs out in 2009.

Fallon was funny as co-anchor on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” segment, but I fear he has big shoes to fill stepping in this spot. Conan wasn’t just funny, his quirkiness made him a strong host for the show. And I haven’t seen much of Fallon outside of SNL that makes him a comedic draw (see Taxi and Fever Pitch). But who knows, maybe the writers can turn Fallon into the next Johnny Carson. If anything, maybe they’ll incorporate SNL type skits into the show so that Fallon can distinguish himself.
