Episode 17 of Smallville, “Sleeper,” was light on the drama side and served more as a plot-pushing filler episode.
Clark searches for Brainiac, the only one who can reverse Lana’s condition. As usual he enlists the help of Chloe to do his dirty work and hack into government satellites. Unfortunately, her actions captures the wandering eye of the Department of Security.
Jimmy, seeking to find out what his date-breaking girlfriend is up to, decides to go James Bond for Chloe. When a Department of Security agent approaches Jimmy on grounds of hacking, our budding Daily Planet photographer finds himself fighting US agents. How does he bail himself out of this mess? He does the worst thing imaginable. He makes a deal with Lex Luthor. Fool.
As for Clark, he travels to the Fortress of Solitude and intercepts a distress signal from Kara. Using information from Chloe’s spy efforts, coupled with a mysterious page in Dr. Swan’s notebook that magically appeared, Clark and Chloe realize that Kara and Brainiac have travelled back in time.
It seems Brainiac is trying to destroy Clark as a child. Time travel? Eek! That’s one messy paradox that sometimes is best left on the sidelines. Oh well. We’ll see how this pans out.
I’m Upset that there are so many references to Chloe working for Green Arrow, but yet our arrow toting hero is nowhere to be found. That’s the one thing, besides Clark flying, that’s been missing from this season of Smallville - more JLA action.
Music from tonight’s episode comes from Duffy “Rockferry.”
