Every so often while flicking through all the channels on my DirecTv, I’ll land on MTV and realize how much the channel has changed over the years. But subsequently, I’ll discover that the network once known for its music videos is holding on to past glory and is STILL airing “The Real World.” I mean, c’mon, they’ve got to be on the 100th season by now!

Well, not 100, but 20. This time around, the show returns to Los Angeles and is called The Real World: Hollywood. And if you’re thinking, “been there, done that;” you’re probably right. The show has pretty much followed the same formula over the past 10 years - feign reality with 7 strangers force to live in a house by casting the people from all over the spectrum and editing their iteractions to make them all seem horny and belligerent.

To me, the show hasn’t seen greatness since the San Francisco season. Puck, Pedro and the rest of the clan had some very interesting relationships. And, of course, the first iterations of New York and Los Angeles were also great TV. But since then, it has just spiraled downhill with each attempt to out-do the previous season. And it went somewhere wrong with the Hawaii season - where fueling each housemate with alcohol became the norm to start some drama and fighting. And don’t get me started on the Las Vegas season - the show likened itself to a brothel - with each season being a drastic attempt to get everyone in the house to hook up.

I don’t suspect that the Hollywood house will be any different. The new season premieres this Wednesday April 16, 2008. But you won’t be missing much if you choose not to tune in.

this is ridiculous - they should just cancel the show. It’s been running almost as long as the Simpsons, but at least that show is still good
