Brace yourselves. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators and executive producers on the CW’s Smallville, have decided to leave Kansas behind to pursue other opportunities.

The comic-to-tv adaption duo Gough and Miller wrote in an open letter, “As the creators of Smallville we look back at 7 amazing years. We look back at 152 episodes. We look back knowing that the show will continue into Season 8 without us. After much heartache and debate we have decided it is time for us to move on.”

Aarrgh, cries a befuddled Charlie Brown. I just hope Clark flies before they leave. 7 years of bliss and the final season (or so) will get packaged off to some proverbial n00bs. Eek.

“Over the last 7 years we have had the honor of working with a remarkable team of people here in Los Angeles and in Vancouver. We have been blessed with a wonderful cast who we have watched mature with admiration and affection. We have been rewarded with a fan base that is as loyal as it is vocal.”

How will Smallville fair without Creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar?

“We are incredibly proud of our work on this show. We achieved what we set out to do. We never compromised our vision. We leave knowing that Smallville is the longest — running comic book based series of all — time. The show was featured on the covers of Rolling Stone, MAD magazine, TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly. The pilot had the highest — rated premiere in the history of the WB. Even in its seventh year it is still the #1 scripted show on the network. Smallville is watched by millions of people in hundreds of countries and in dozens of languages around the world.”

You should be proud. Smallville fans around the world, are thankful for your time on the set. We only wished you had time to wrap what you started. Alas, all good things must come to an end. Here’s hoping the new team will finish what you started with the commitment, integrity and passion Smallville deserves.

I would definitely be interested in a non-krypto-freak villain. Brainiac and Zod were great. The Luthors have been awesome. And they had a season of “Zoners.”

But who else is there in the Superman mythos that would work on Smallville?

Metallo is still really just a meteor-freak.

Darkseid would be huge, but I’d be afraid they’d marginalize him on TV.

Maybe a super-villain will actually show up that HASN’T been affected by meteor rocks. :O
    (Brainiac aside)
