Two long-lost Japanese Anime films, nearly a century old were discovered in a second hand shop last July by Musashino Art University lecturer Natsuki Matsumoto.
The first film, from the Kobayashi Shokai production company, “Namakura Katana”” premiered in 1917. It was the story of a samurai who was tricked in to buying a blunt sword (probably by a really smart ninja but your guess is as good as mine).
The second film, illustrated by illustrated by Seitaro Kitayama, and was the 1918 remake of a Japanese fairy tale.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the films will play at an April film festival titled “Hakutsu sareta Eiga tachi (Unearthed Films) — 2008.” 94 other discovered films will also be screened.
