Tonight’s episode of Smallville, “Veritas,” may have been one of the best episodes in a while. Despite a few gems, Season 7 has been more or less lackluster. There wasn’t much in the way of action, but as far as story and dramatic tension goes it was jam-packed.
In “Veritas,” Brainiac returns to Smallville and he has his eyes set on our blonde-haired Kryptonian Kara. When she refuses to help Krypton’s super-computer, Brainiac decides to use typical-Smallville victim Lana Lang as a bargaining chip by taking control of her nervous system. Kara decides to fly off into space with Brainiac to save Lana. Too bad, Brainiac didn’t keep his word and Lana still remains “possessed.”
The body count is rising as Lex has flashbacks of his childhood, remember all of his father’s clandestine meetings with Queens, the Teagues, and the Swans. We learn that the pendant Patricia wore around her neck was really a key, and that Lionel held the other key to unlocking the Veritas safe in Zurich.
Jimmy Olsen looks to Lois Lane to help him keep his job and teams up with her to learn the truth behind the death of Patricia Swan. Their collaboration leads them to a confrontation with Lionel and finally to Lana’s Isis foundation where they learn that Lex was really behind Patricia Swan’s death.
Things aren’t looking good for Lionel. Though he may be Jor-El’s vessel, Clark has lost all faith in him after Lionel captured him in episode 14 “Traveler.” Lionel begs Clark and Chloe to trust him and tries to warn them of an impending danger. Unfortunately, the lies have grown so large that they refuse to listen to another word from a Luthor.
Smallville has always been known for subtle comic book references/easter eggs, to leave savvy comic geeks’ mouths watering. Tonight’s ep had three more overt references.
When Lionel Luthor is confronted by Lois and Jimmy regarding the death of Patricia Swan, Lionel says, “Now if that is all from the dynamic duo, security will be very happy to help you find your way out.” This is an obvious reference to Batman and Robin.
Kara is convinced that Clark must learn to fly in order to combat whatever evil Brainiac is cooking up. Kara tells Clark, “It’s really easy, just up up and away.” Well, hopefully this means that Clark will just shut-up and fly by the end of season 7 or the beginning of Smallville season 8.
And finally, in a flashback, we see Lex playing with a superhero toy in a blue outfit and red cape - needless to say that’s a Superman reference. Why does the Smallville creative team keep taunting us with references to Clark flying? Just let him fly already.
I still can’t get over that Kara and Clark wear matching outfits. Kara wears a red shirt and blue jacket, while Clark wears a blue shirt and red jacket. And sometimes, they switch back and forth. When Kara flies off into space after Brainiac, Clark decides to wear the blue jacket.
Smallville returns with all-new episodes starting Thursday, April 17 on the CW.

Is Lana dead?
I’m so happy this season is finally starting to pick up the pace. The past three episodes have been great. Especially with Pete returning.
It’s been such a let down watching Kara’s terrible acting this season. She seems so robotic. Even moreso than Brainiac and if anything he should be the more robotic one. I guess she’s eye candy for the fellas and that’s all that counts.
I thought Clark and Lana were through? But she keeps showing up. She’s such a Smallville slut. I bet she wants to experiment with Kara too!!!!!!
That’s typical for smallville. a fifth of the season is lukewarm, the rest is awesome
Everybody hates Lana….but Clark is really turning out to be a b***h! I’m sorry, but the fact that he still can’t fly when he did it in a previous season is ridiculous…Worse yet, the scene where he is at the barn window with Kara prodding him on and he won’t take a chance. Jump fool!! You know you won’t get hurt!! Just jump out the damn window!! IF CK had more heart, then Lana wouldn’t always be a victim, and fans wouldn’t always be hoping to have her killed off!
The dynamic duo is obviously NOT an reference to Batman&Robin but to Lois & Jimmy themself, for everyone know that they always team up in the comic books…
Gael, Uhm NO! Dynamic Duo always refers to Batman and Robin. No, matter who it’s about, you say Dynamic Duo you mean Batman and his sidekick. Yes Lois and Jimmy are a team, but there a team LIKE Batman and Robin… Lois being Batman and Jimmy being the sidekick.
Obviously you don’t read many comics.
what is the name of the last song in episode veritas? Anyone??
