If there’s one thing that’s always prevalent in entertainment, it’s lawsuits. The latest lawsuit in the music world comes from the Smashing Pumpkins who has filed suit against Virgin Records for using their name in the “Pepsi Stuff” promotion.
The alternative band claims that Virgin only has the rights on selling digital downloads of Pumpkins’ music. In the statement claims that the illegal use of their name in conjunction with a promotion between Amazon.com and Pepsi Co. threatens to hurt the groups “artistic integrity” and reputation with the public.
The Smashing Pumpkins stated that they’ve “worked hard for over two decades to accumulate a considerable amount of goodwill in the eyes of the public…” and would “never grant such authority to Virgin, or any other entity.”
The suit calls for an injunction against Virgin for future use of the the band’s name or music. They are also asking for profits from the promotion.
