Fantastic Four star Chris Evans says that a third installment of the Fantastic Four franchise is not likely going to happen. The actor, who played the Human Torch in the films, stated to MTV news:

“I’m pretty sure we won’t do [another] one. I’m assuming that one is a closed book. After the first one was released we got wind of potential titles and plots [almost immediately], and I’ve heard nothing from anyone at Fox [yet]. We had all planned on doing [another] one but if there were going to be a third I think a week after the second one was released we would have heard.”

In a weird way, I’m hoping that they do come out with a third movie. While I don’t really marvel at the first two movies as awesome cinematic achievements, I thought that Rise of the Silver Surfer was much better than the first one. And, it may have been nothing more than a popcorn flick, but not every comic book movie can take on the dark vantage point that Christopher Nolan achieved with Batman Begins. If expectations are set, the FF films are quite enjoyable and make a good summer afternoon trip to the movies.

Hopefully, Chris will be wrong and they’ll continue with another movie featuring Galactus, more of the Silver Surfer and Dr. Doom.Rumor has it that a Silver Surfer spin-off is in the works, but I don’t think his character was properly developed in the second film (not on screen until about 40 something minutes into the movie). I think the correct route is to make a Fantastic Four 3, develop the Surfer’s character more and then spin-off to a SS movie and his fight against Galactus.
