In what may be the most bizarre movie deal to grace (or maybe the word should be disgrace) Hollywood in years, Hasbro Inc has just signed a six-year deal with NBC Universal to make movies based on some of their more popular board games.
Board games? That’s right bored games. Not to be cheesy, but just the thought of seeing a board game transformed for the silver screen sounds BORING.
The deal specifically outlined these games: Monopoly, Battleship, Candy Land and Ouija. Sounds like a B-movie bonanza.
I’m just waiting for someone to create a movie based on that cool little Energizer bunny that dominated commercials in the 80s and 90s. Hey, if they can make a show about the Cavemen from Geico, I’m sure they can make a movie based on a battery driven bunny rabbit.
The expected release date for the first board game movie is 2010 or 2011, with NBC Universal releasing another film each subsequent year.

I’m producing and directing a documentary about the game of Monopoly called “Under the Boardwalk.” It will feature interviews with some of the top players from around the world, as well as cover the history of the game and showcase how Monopoly has become such a huge worldwide phenomenon.
You can check out some clips from the interviews and follow our progress as filming continues at http://www.MonopolyDocumentary.com
What’s next? Hungry Hungry Hippo?
