Even in the most die hard of Prison Break fan circles, you’ll be sure to find consensus that the third season is their least favorite of all three. Now that Michael has escaped Sona and Lincoln has LJ back, are we going to see the all the loose ends tied up in a 4th season? While countless PB fans want to see Scofield and Co. stick it to Gretchen, Whistler, The Company and all of their grandmothers, will Fox be so loyal to the show given its ratings downslide? (Not to mention the even greater suspension-of-disbelief that viewers will have to equip themselves with to view a fourth iteration of a show about breaking out of Prison)
The answer is a complicated one. This season, while I still found it engaging and exciting at moments, was ultimately delivered a death blow from several different angles. The show’s writers destroyed a significant amount of fan loyalty when they delivered Sara Tancredi’s head in a box. Now, I understand that Sarah Waynes Callies could not return (and even didn’t want to), but that incident was far beyond the realm of possibilites - even in this fantasy world of Prison Break. There had to be at least a handful of other options in the editing room that would’ve been much more viable an end to her character than that.
Next up, the Writer’s Strike came in with a Hadouken (excuse the Street Fighter analogy) and critically wounded the show - forcing Fox to pretty much cut Season 3 in half. Last night’s finale felt rushed and unsatisfying, when the show was just starting to pick up momentum over the last several episodes. It did “ok” in the ratings department, nabbing 7.4 million total viewers. But that’s not quite the greatest showing for a finale of a “popular” show.
Then there’s Fox’s original plan of stretching the show out - giving it both fall and winter hiatuses. If you couple the writing woes with this, it was hard for the excursion in Panama to gain any traction (I mean, come on, it took 5 months for Fox to air 13 episodes!).
Bottom line, despite all these creative challenges, Fox owes it to loyal Prison Break fans to wrap up the loose ends with “The Company.” We’ve learned VERY little about this mysterious entity and ending the show with last night’s finale will forever be unsettling for those that have taken the vicarious trip from Fox River to Sona. The Company has to know that it can’t mess with Michael (and us fans) and get away with it. And while life doesn’t always deliver happy endings, I was always under the assumption that I’d see Scofield and Burrows have their sipping-margaritas-on-the-beach finale (I’d even settle for a sipping-lemonade-on-the-Jersey-shore one). My suggestion is for them to air a mini-Season 4, or a Season 3-Part 2 (don’t care what they call it). After that, Prison Break should end - I will need no more of the Scofield saga.

Now that they have done this crap with season 3, we await another season, as the finale of S3 is of course not satifying.
I share the comments of some who say that Prison Break ended with Season 2, the 2 brothers on their boat, finally free and happy. The rest is just production greed, or how to ruin an extraordinary series.
But… addicted as I am, I will follow the coming season, and take whatever they throw at me…

PB is the best show ever,i’m the biggest fan(believe me!!)….and i have great news!!!it was officially confirmed by Nick Santora(one of the writers of the show) that THERE IS GOING TO BE A 4 SEASON!!!!i’m so happy!!!

“So we got word on Wednesday that we are officially picked up by the network for Season 4. This is great news. We are all very excited. We are moving offices onto the Fox Studio Lot next week and we had to say goodbye to the offices that were our home for the past 3 years … not really that sad because, well, c’mon, it’s just a frickin’ building.
But my new office is about half the size with just a tiny window which normally would suck except for one thing … I get to go to work everyday with people I love and respect and I get to be creative. So I don’t really give a rat’s ass what our new offices look like!

Besides, I’m a vicar and it’s given me endless sermons…
Having followed PB since it first started (and given Rupert Murdoch enough of my money already), it’s very clear there aren’t that many programmes on telly of this calibre. The entire cast are excellent, and, while S3 felt rushed at times, it was enormously satisfying to find new directions.
But the series can’t finish until the writers take their time, have a fully-worked strategy for where it’s going, and provide a Shawshank ending. There HAS to be a Shawshank ending… with Bellick sanding the boat.
The Company should get brought down - by Mahone, Michael DOESN’t kill anyone (crucial to his spiritual well-being), Link opens the surfshack, Sara screws her head back on, Sucre marries Maricruz!!!!!
Why am I getting so worked up about a fictional telly programme…?
Few programmes begin and end with consistently high levels of quality, particularly from such a novel storyline. I stopped watching Lost when I realised you only needed to watch the first and last five minutes of every episode and not miss much. With PB the fun is all the way through. Don’t ruin one of the few reasons to watch telly - it’s rubbish otherwise. Forget the ratings, do television for the reason it’s there - nothing comes from following money.
