Toshiba has decided to ditch its HD-DVD high definition format. This leaves Sony Blu-Ray as the outright winner in the short-lived war.
“We concluded that a swift decision would be best.” Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida said.
Consumers that are early adopters will likely offload their equipment as soon as possible. Expect to see a ton of HD-DVD equipment and software on eBay.
You also have to wonder what will happen to Microsoft’s XBox 360 HD-DVD add-on, though we’re assuming they’ll discontinue that as well. No word yet on if Microsoft will offer a Blu-Ray peripheral to their lineup as well.
